One of the primary functions of the SOAR Center is to contribute to the academic preparation and outreach of underrepresented and underserved students (e.g. first generation, low-income, and ethnic minorities) in local Title I high schools and community colleges. Through the Student Initiated Academic Preparation (SIAP) program, SOAR works with Registered Campus Organizations (RCOs) conducting long-term community service projects to outreach to local youth. In addition, SOAR hosts and provides sponsorship for RCOs hosting one-day campus visits for Title I schools. The Student Outreach Advisory Committee (OAC) works directly with the Outreach Coordinators to set the funding guidelines, review grant proposals, allocate funding, and evaluate the projects.
